UIF Contributions Draft Bill

FINANCE Minister Nhlanhla Nene has dropped a proposal to reduce contributions to the Unemployment Insurance Fund for a single year period after consultation with business and labour.The decision was taken after detailed engagements with business and labour constituencies within the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac), the Treasury said in a statement.

In his February budget speech, Mr Nene proposed a reduction of the earnings threshold against which the 2% UIF levy is calculated for a year, something which would reduce the maximum contribution for both employees and employers to R10 per month, as opposed to R149.

B-BBEE Amended Codes of Good Practice

The Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies (MP) hereby:

 

  • Published a Notice of Clarification for the Amended B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice, Gazette Number 38764.

  • Published schedule of the Amended Codes of Good Practice, Gazette number 38765.

  • Published Phase 2 of the Amended Codes of Good Practice, Gazette number 38766.

Labour Relations Act Amendments

December 31, 2014

After much uncertainty and debate on whether the amendments to the Labour Relations Act will ever be effective, the President of the Republic of South Africa, Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, has finally published the effective date of the said Act.

 

In terms of Section 45 of the Labour Relations Amendment Act, 2014, the President has declared the 1 January 2015 as the effective date for the amendments. The said determination was gazetted on the 19th December 2014 as Number 38317.

 

Employers will have three (3)months from the 1st January 2015 to comply with the Amendment Act.
